How I Stumbled Upon Sprunki and Created sprunki.app
Sprunki Incredibox Interface
One day, I saw someone sharing a game video on X (formerly Twitter). As soon as I clicked on it, the music immediately caught my attention—it had that kind of rhythm that makes you tap your feet while listening. I wonder if you've ever had the same feeling; some music just has that magic, and your body doesn't lie. I was curious, what kind of game is this? How is such music created?
However, there was no link provided on X, so I turned to Google for answers. I found many websites related to Sprunki, like sprunki.com and sprunki.org, which left me confused. I initially thought Sprunki was developed by a gaming company, but the search results were so chaotic.
After some digging, I discovered that this game was actually developed using Scratch by a user named NyankoBfLol (https://scratch.mit.edu/users/NyankoBfLol/). The code is open-source. Once released, it quickly became popular, attracting many Scratch users. However, due to a mode in the game that contains somewhat bloody and violent scenes, it was taken down by Scratch officials. The author then moved the game to other platforms. But the game links he provided often became invalid, and the version I played was a bit different from the one I initially saw.
On itch.io, many Sprunki mods quickly appeared. There are also many platforms like sprunki.com and sprunki.org offering the game. However, I found that these sites are filled with numerous ads, almost like content farms. As a former programmer and a Scratch developer myself (haha), I deeply explored Scratch while teaching my daughter—it's the go-to tool for kids to learn programming. So, I found the Sprunki SB project and built my own site, sprunki.app, aiming to provide the purest Sprunki gaming experience.
After setting up the site, I spent a lot of time playing Sprunki. An interesting aspect of this game is that even if you know nothing about music theory, you can still create great-sounding music. Forgive me, I'm a music novice with zero knowledge of music theory, but that doesn't stop me from crafting pleasant tunes. Every time I create good music, I want to share the process. So, I added a feature to record gameplay videos based on the original version, which is really fun.
The Charm of the Game
The most attractive part of the game is that it offers 19 different character designs. Each character has their own name, background story, and most importantly—a unique piece of music. We can select 7 characters to place on the stage to generate a complete piece of music. Exploring different combinations is extremely fun. You can find many creators sharing their works on YouTube.

Another appealing aspect is that each character has their own little story, including some "gossip" between characters. Some wiki sites have compiled character stories, such as Incredibox Sprunki Wiki and Sprunki - wiki. Studying these characters is also interesting. I have created a series of character cards on my website, which are quite fun.
Additionally, I found many people on X doing secondary creations of the characters, designing numerous new styles that are very interesting and cool.

I'm considering developing a new feature that allows players to upload their own designed character images and sounds. I'm preparing to develop this feature and am very much looking forward to its launch. If you're interested, you're welcome to join our waitlist.
